What we can and cannot fund
What we can fund:
The focus of work must always be the conservation improvements of an identified site or sites to benefit one or several BAP priority habitats. For example:
- The recreation of a BAP listed priority habitat
- Restoration or conservation of a BAP listed habitat
- Surveying/monitoring/on site research into a BAP listed habitat at a specified site or sites where this is part of on-site conservation work
Please note, applications can involve more than one site where there are clear and defined ecological links between sites and the habitat(s) being supported is the same for each site.
The primary intent of projects must be practical site based conservation work. WREN is able to fund Research/Monitoring and Survey work, but applicants must be able to demonstrate the clear intent to implement on site conservation work in addition to or as a result of these activities.
What we cannot fund:
WREN is unable to fund the following aspects of a project:
- General habitat surveys
- Feasibility studies
- Costs not directly attributable to the physical delivery of the project
- Liaison with landowners to identify future biodiversity improvements on their land
- Providing land management advice to landowners and businesses either to improve biodiversity or take up agri-environmental scheme funding
- Funding for work that has already been carried out prior to the WREN contract date. This includes work in preparing an application or pre-application work
- Indirect management costs or administration costs of a project, including overhead costs of the applicant
- Contingencies or contingent liabilities
- Reclaimable VAT
- Land purchase
- Cars and pickups
- Leaflets, websites and other interpretation
Please note
WREN is able to provide funding only towards direct project works which will be carried out at the identified sites. The salary costs that WREN will fund are the proportion of employee's salary, employer's national insurance and employer's pension costs that can be directly attributed to physical delivery of the project. If your project includes staff costs you must provide a job description, salary costs (including employer's pension and NI costs) and breakdown of the time that will be spent on direct project works including details of the tasks and identifying the percentage of time spent on them.
