WREN Grants for Norfolk!
WREN Grants for Norfolk!
Eggs weren’t the only things cracked in Norfolk this Easter weekend – news was breaking of the latest Grants awarded by WREN. Four village halls and three play areas in Norfolk were included in a total of 10 grants totalling £96,707, in the latest round of funding from the Landfill Communities Fund of Waste Recycling Group Ltd, distributed by WREN.
Haddiscoe village hall received a grant of £8,981 towards their new roof, and David Wilcox, Honorary Secretary of Haddiscoe village hall eggs-claimed: “The Trustees were very pleased to receive this eggs-cellent news of the WREN grant. The extension roof is in a very poor condition, and the subsequent replacement will make a huge improvement for all who use the room on a regular basis.”
Other eggs-cited recipients include village halls at: Forncett, Newton Flotman, Oulton, and Seething & Mundham. Rockland St Mary Parish Room will be having drainage works, there will soon be a new youth shelter at Mulbarton, and the play areas at Tivetshall and Swardeston will also see improvements.
An eggs-ceptional mention must be made for Saham Toney, who will at last get a children’s play area, after successful applications to both WREN and the Big Lottery fund. Funding of over £45,000 will ensure that all age children will have somewhere to play in the village.
The grants made under the Landfill Communities Fund (formerly known as the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme) look to improve community life by enhancing existing facilities as well as providing new facilities, including play areas & village halls. In addition historic and religious buildings can also receive funding for restoration work. During 2007, WREN distributed over £600,000 in grants to 41 projects within Norfolk and North Suffolk.
Sarah Gosling, WREN Project Manager for Norfolk, explained: “Projects applying for grants from WREN are assessed by an individual panel of locally based experts in each county for their need, community benefit and support, sustainability and value for money. Each one of these projects demonstrated individual benefits to their community.”

Last year WREN also celebrated their 10th Anniversary, which has seen the completion of 4,000 projects receiving funding of over £100million in that time.
WREN are also still inviting applications to their WRG Communities Challenge, with grants available between £75,000 and £250,000 for community projects. Applications must be in before the 30th May 2008. For further information, please see their website.
