Grand Opening celebrations at Pannal Hall

A scheme to improve Pannal Memorial Hall was finally unveiled to the local community following the official opening celebrations.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Harrogate officially opened the new community rooms at Pannal Memorial Hall, at celebrations held on Saturday 26th November.

With the help of £50,000 from WREN the village hall committee have extended and converted an old dilapidated two bed caretaker’s house, attached to the hall, to form a self-contained annexe with a large ground floor function room/bar and a large first floor meeting/activity room. There is a lobby area and additional toilets on the ground floor.

The new rooms can be accessed either via the new entrance or via the main hall. This will overcome past problems faced by users of only being able to have one activity at a time in the building and will therefore make the institute more financially sustainable and less reliant upon income generated by the snooker club.

The committee have now provided a proper ‘community centre’ for the village which will be available for a wide variety of activities for young and old alike.

With phase one now complete the committee now wish to proceed with phase two by creating a new entrance lobby to the main hall and converting the existing lobby into a level access chair/table store. This help to overcome on going storage problems and difficulties with chairs being stacked high on the stage. The second phase will cost approximately £25,000 and the committee are fundraising starting with a new Film Season with other activities to follow.
