WREN grants encourage exercise for all ages!
You would expect good news to put a smile on a face, but some may look more like a grimace when the newly announced outdoor gym at Histon and Impington's recreation ground is completed. The provision of 5 pieces of equipment will enable all ages to participate in various exercises. In addition to this, a surfaced pathway will be created around the pitches, giving a circular walk for those who prefer a less energetic pastime! Meanwhile, at Great Stukeley, a WREN Grant of £14,635 means that the children will get a village play area after a long wait. The latest funding awards by WREN, announced this week, amounted to £123,815 for 6 projects across the county.
The recreation ground at Histon and Impington is home to various sports, and to complement the new children's play area, they sought to provide equipment for adults to 'play' on. A joint approach with the 'Friend's' group will offer social exercise opportunities for all ages, and a self-led exercise regime leaflet will be produced and available for those who want to go along in their own time.
Neil Davies, Chair of the Recreation Ground Committee at Histon, said: "We are thrilled with the award of the WREN grant to help provide the outdoor sports gym, and the perimeter path which will make the 'Rec' more accessible for young families and older residents".
Other projects which received funding from WREN this round were the play area at Gorefield, a new sports and social pavilion for Barton, a new village hall at Eastrea and general improvements to Swavesey Memorial hall.
Sarah Gosling, WREN Grant Manager for Cambridgeshire, explained: "Each project we support is unique, and we are pleased to be able to provide funding support to these projects which all demonstrate individual benefits to their community. The support of projects which bring the community together will hopefully give them sustainability in the future. "
