Rebuilding Katherines Cross

Rebuilding Katherines Cross

Ampthill Park is an historic country park that, in the 15th Century was a Tudor hunting park and the site of Ampthill Castle. The castle no longer remains however it is marked by Katherine’s Cross, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. This is a memorial to Katherine of Aragon who was held at the castle for a year whilst her marriage to Henry VIII was annulled.

To ensure it’s physical integrity, English Heritage recommended this cross to be rebuilt – funding from WREN has made this possible. WREN awarded £40,850 towards the project in May 2007, which had a total project cost of £46,350.

Work is due to start in October 2007, with a completion date in February 2008.
