RSPB Reserve Conwy
RSPB Reserve Conwy
Situated on the banks of the Conwy estuary, with stunning views of Snowdonia and Conwy Castle, there are well over 200 species of birds on this exciting reserve. It is a former spoil site, left from the construction of the Conwy Tunnel, which has been transformed by the RSPB into a haven for birds, wildlife and the local community alike.
A number of footpaths take you round a series of lagoons, through flower-filled meadows and back along beside the estuary. Observation hides with interactive displays allow visitors to watch the birds on the open water without fear of disturbing them.
Open days and guided walks cater for all audiences, from the keen birdwatcher looking for migrants and unusual wintering species to the beginner in search of some help with their hobby. Birds are always visible from windows of the visitor centre with expert help on-hand.
Over the years, WREN has had a strong working relationship with the reserve and has recently assisted with funding towards the construction of a fantastic wet weather community facility. This will enable the current range of inspirational learning programmes, lectures, talks, presentations and events to be extended to all year round, broadening the involvement of young people in nature and encouraging more people to the reserve. Visitor numbers have soared and local children have enjoyed a range of innovative lifelong learning experiences.
Through their commitment, the RSPB have developed an exceptionally popular and well run reserve which is a real asset to the surrounding local communities and schools.
