Edinburgh - Union Canal Access Improvement
WREN funding of £20,000 recently contributed to a project to improve access on a busy section of the Union Canal towpath. As a result of the project the section between Harrison Park and Viewforth has been widened and resurfaced, allowing improved and safer shared use for walkers, cyclists and wheelchair users.
This section of towpath leads directly to the city centre and is very popular for leisure and as a route to and from work. The towpath is part of the 10,000 mile national cycle network improvements mean that local people can enjoy the benefits of a safer and quieter alternative route.
