Kingsway Backs in Widnes
The ‘Backs’ project has delivered significant improvements to a piece of land surrounded by houses on the Kingsway estate in Widnes. A exceptionally large grant of over £57,000 was awarded to the project by WREN in 2005 to develop this important site.
Identified through community consultation and involvement, three phases of work have incorporated a multi sports area, a play area and a community garden and landscaping. Local facilities for sport and play are at a premium and the Kingsway estate itself has no such facilities whatsoever. The project provides over 800 households with a much needed facility which will contribute towards improving the quality of life in the area and will also improve heath and well being amongst the people of the Kingsway estate.
