Sheerness Hope Street United Reformed Church

The grade II listed building originally dates from 1832 and was extended in 1882, but drastically in need of structural works to ensure that it could remain in public use. A meeting was held in 2002 which supported the restoration of the building to meet the needs of the users, and to adapt to meet the wider needs of the community in Sheerness.

The result is the design of a revised building, based on the shell of the existing, however, with a new first floor created to increase valuable floor space. The design uses translucent glass bricks in the foyer to enable natural light to permeate through the building. Overall, the project cost more than £1.25million.
The ground floor provides the new community office accommodation, kitchen, social enterprise café and worship area, with the first floor providing the new meeting halls.

WREN awarded a grant of £20,000 in 2005, and the centre was officially opened earlier this year.
