Burnley - Canalside Community Centre
Canalside Community Centre
Located close to the centre of Burnley, this project will involve the complete restoration of a listed building, now known as the Canalside Community Centre. Over previous decades the building has had various uses, including a nightclub and has been allowed to fall into disrepair.
The Canalside Community Association leased the ground floor in January 2004 and developed it as a community centre catering for a variety of community activities. In October 2005 with grants from SRB6 and the Tudor Trust the association was able to purchase the building.
Now that the future of the building is secure a program of improvements is planned and a grant of £50,000 has been awarded by WREN to contribute towards the capital costs of modernising the building at an estimated cost of over £100,000. Fundraising for the improvements is ongoing and it is hoped that building works will commence early in 2007.
