Alford - Manor House Restoration
In early 1999, the Alford Civic Trust began work on a project to restore the Manor House and to improve its museum and grounds. Initially, it was thought that the grade II* Listed Building required only minor repairs, repointing and rethatching. However, an architect’s report showed that the House needed far more extensive repairs than had first been envisaged. The wider improvement plans were abandoned and the project focused solely on saving the building.
Work to restore this historic building included rethatching the roof, repairing the brickwork masonry, most of which dates from the 17th Century, improving access, door & window works and decoration. A grant from WREN was awarded towards the brickwork and access improvements.
