Branston Booths Village Hall opens its doors

The local community of Branston Booths celebrated as the doors of its brand new village hall opened on Saturday 17th June 2006.

A £250,000 winner of the 2004 WRG Village Hall & Community Centre Challenge, this small and rural village with a vibrant history was at a loss as their old village hall was fast disappearing into the surrounding fenland. The hall, a distinctive wooden shack, had been in existence since 1934 serving a myriad of purposes including as a World War II ARP Station.

Peter Lundgren of the Branston Booths Village Hall Committee explained: “This is a fantastic day for the village and the culmination of many years of hard work and effort by a committed team of volunteers supported by everyone in the village and surrounding areas.”

“We were overjoyed to win last year’s WRG Challenge and enjoyed a great day out at an awards ceremony in Central London. The support of WREN who organised the Challenge has also been instrumental in our success as has the close assistance of Susan Ross of The North Kesteven District Council.”

The new inspiring village hall is partly sustainable with photo voltaic panels providing hot water and the design flexibility to incorporate additional environmentally friendly technologies. It will host an array of new activities renewing both the fabric and spirit of the community.
