Walsoken All Saints Church community room

All Saints Church is quite unusual in that the church lies in Norfolk, but the churchyard sits in Cambridgeshire! Apart from that, it is typical of many churches – trying to adapt for increased community use. To that effect, they have already installed a toilet and kitchenette in the base of their tower and removed some pews to allow for comfortable, adaptable seating. The only thing missing was a smaller area, which could be used by groups, without having to heat the whole church.

Their aim has been reached, with the completion of a meeting room, created from a small chapel room, behind the organ. A great deal of time and effort has enabled a dark, uninviting space, to become a reasonable sized room, able to offer another venue for groups in Walsoken. Already they have groups who wish to use this new space, and this extra facility will enable new groups to form, and for improved utilization of the church.

WREN were pleased to be involved, and provided a grant of £19,991 towards their project of just under £50,000.

Next on their plan for general improvement is the replacement of their heating system. Luckily they have received a legacy specifically towards this intention, so are well on their way with fundraising already.
