Abingdon - Jubilee Junction, Oxfordshire
WREN has helped to support the historic creation of a new junction on the Thames that will eventually be extended to rejoin the Wilts & Berks Canal, so reopening one of Britain’s most important waterways. The grant of nearly £50,000 was used for the excavation and the creation of the new banks. The opening attracted large numbers of boats of all shapes and sizes as well as crowds that lined the junction.
The junction is just one small part of the ongoing work of the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust to reopen the full 63 mile length of the waterway. Elsewhere, their work has made vast improvements to local areas through which the canal travels. To the south of Abingdon, the new junction sits in an area which is being improved for all local people and visitors to enjoy.
