Grimethorpe Community and Fitness Centre Opens
Grimethorpe Community and Fitness Centre Opens
The new Grimethorpe Community and Fitness centre was officially opened by Mayor Mick Hanley on 5th October 2007. The new centre was built by Brierley Town Council, with funding from WREN, Regional Housing Board and SRB H 1. The building includes a large community room, ideal for both community functions and sport activities, a well-equipped gym, with trained fitness instructors, a sauna and a steam room. Local residents can join for a single session, a week or a month.
The centre is a major boost for the area and offers the local community first rate facilities right on their doorstep. The centre has already proved a big success seeing nearly 1000 people through the doors in the first 2 weeks. A WREN grant of £50,000 was used towards the cost of constructing the new building and has offered real benefits to the whole community.
