Abergele-Pensarn Climbing Wall & Outdoor Gym
The newly opened outdoor gym and climbing wall is already proving to be a big hit with young and old.
The project was offically opened at the end of May 2011 by Dame Mary Peters and provide two types of recreational equipment and is located at the promenade at Pensarn, Abergele.
The climbing wall is a multi-functional piece of play and exercise equipment with a natural appearance and texture. Beginners can use the climbing hand and footholds and more experienced climbers can progress their skills by using the handcrafted rock finish. The wall measures 3m high and 2.4m wide and has a spiders web net connecting the two pieces.
The outdoor gym is made up of 5 pieces of Xerscape fitness equipment. The range of equipment will allow people to develop upper or lower body strength, toning and cardiovascular fitness. The equipment is accompanied by a sign providing simple-step-by-step instructions on how to use the equipment; the sequence in which to use each piece and how many repetitions should be achieved, according to the users level of fitness.
The project was delivered by PeBel who are a very active community groups with plans to transfor the area into a community hub. The project had the support of Conwy County Council and WREN funding.
