Airdrie Sports Field Upgrade
North Lanarkshire Leisure, a subsidiary of North Lanarkshire Council, have a programme to upgrade pitches to third generation (3G) standard.
The 3G surface is made up of a long pile synthetic grass carpet, with either an infill mixture of sand and rubber granules or purely rubber granules. The granules are made up of recycled tyres and training shoe soles.
The synthetic surface is suitable for football matchplay and rugby training. The international sport governing bodies of football (FIFA) and rugby (IRB) accept 3G surfaces for their respective sports.
Airdrie Leisure Centre is an extremely popular sports facility in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire. It compliments similar facilities in Bellshill, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.
Wren have awarded £250,000 towards these facilities.
