Askern - Shakers Project
The initial project was identified by the local youth of Askern and after considering a number of options, the Yorkshire Rural Community Council pointed the applicants in the direction of Finnish Living Homes, (a Finnish building construction company), who were invited along and worked with the young people from to turn their ideas into reality.
The décor of the building is styled in the retro 50's/60's theme, including a modern copy of a Wurlitzer, bubble style jukebox with music from the 1950s to the present day, plus neon lights and appropriate decorations, seating etc.
The building is fully accessible and includes a bar/kitchen that will sell milk-shakes (hence the “Shakers” project), smoothies and speciality coffees with music from an authentic juke-box in the background, social and games areas as well as meeting/training facilities.
The building is a genuine community building that will be used by all members of the community when not being used for its main purpose as a youth/social centre.
