Bishop Monkton Playing Fields MUGA

The project was to build a new Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) at Bishop Monkton playing fields. The project site is located on the main recreation area in the village which currently provides facilities for cricket, football, bowls, croquet, and a children's playground (which received WREN funding of £25,000 in 2008) as well as a new Village Hall (which also received WREN funding of £25,000 in 2004) and car park.

The MUGA consists of two tennis courts, one of which will be line painted for a 5-a-side football pitch and a basketball court with goals and basketball hoops permanently attached to the fencing.

The MUGA set up for tennis

The MUGA has fulfilled the two requirements highlighted in the Parish Plan, these were:

1. Recreational facility for teenage children.

2. Tennis facilities.

The completed project has provided suitable facilities for children to engage in meaningful and worthwhile activities, helping them to keep fit, improve social and sporting skills and reduce the risk of antisocial behaviour through boredom.

Official opening of the new MUGA

The MUGA has provided sporting facilities which will permit the full spectrum of adults and children to engage in health and fitness activities.
