Brayton - St Wilfrid's Parish Hall

In November 2009 the new parish hall was officially opened and blessed by the Archbishop of York, Dr. John Sentamu at a well attended ceremony within the church building.

The aim of the project was to construct a new build parish hall, on land donated by the Diocese of York.  The project was the result of consideration by the Parochial Church Council of the needs of the growing community.

For some considerable time Brayton Parochial Church Council identified that the current community premises are not suitable, accessible, or the best use of a Grade II listed building.  Energy costs were high, insulation standards where very low and access was difficult for the able bodied and even worse for those with disabilities.

The Archbishop of York officially opens the Parish Hall

The original community building had steps at the entrance, steps inside (3 floors) and was without accessible toilet facilities.  In short the original premises were inadequate for current users and not attractive to potential users due to their condition and accessibility.

The new purpose built community building consists of a new hall and ancillary parts, entrance, toilet, kitchen, and office. The new building is fully insulated and energy efficient with modern and appropriate facilities for the whole community.
