Cambourne Church Centre
The new community of Great Cambourne has been growing ever larger in the past 8 years, and is still not yet at the full expected development size. Each year more houses are built, but the community buildings are not able to accommodate these new residents.

In 2002 the Developers of Cambourne transferred land to Shared Churches (Ely) Ltd, for a church building as part of their 106 agreement with South Cambridgeshire Council. Cambourne local church erected a temporary building close to the site, which was the first community building in Cambourne. This was used by the church for services and activities but was also used by 28 different organisations and for many individual parties.
Funding was sought for the new permanent building to replace the temporary one and provide a similar service to the church and community. Planning consent was obtained but there were insufficient funds to make a start. South Cambs District Council applied to the Government Growth Area Fund, which made an offer of £0.5m, which started the fundraising off. As the government money had a tight time limitation it was decided to use a 'Design & Build' contract. Due to funding limitations, they have a 2-phase build.
The first phase of the building, whichcomprises a main hall, a smaller hall, foyer, kitchen, toilets, plant room and storage, is now complete. Later phases will include a chapel and vestry, and extension to the main hall, a further small hall and more storage.
The official opening of the Church building was carried out by the Duke of Gloucester, in July 2010, where he planted a tree to commemorate the occasion.
