Cheshire and Mersey Forest Bluebell Recovery Project
The project is to provide a local supply of native Bluebells for planting and to grow on seed collected during community Bluebell events. The Barrowmore estate has expressed an interest in helping to cultivate bulbs in the future as part of training opportunities. The project aims to achieve the following: To Sow 0.5 acres of Bluebell seeds direct into the ground and possibly under water permeable tunnels. Manage the Bluebells through work undertaken by the estate trainees for example spraying and hoeing to reduce weed competition.
Sow with liners in place to enable the bulbs to be lifted easily at any time. The seeds will be provided by Bluebell BAP Members through community activities organised by the action group and the Mersey Valley Partnership. Barrowmore Estate will receive financial support from the Bluebell BAP Group to pay for materials in the set up of the nursery and an agreed annual fee. Funding is sought from Wren for the costs of the development of and materials for the project
