Ennerdale Green Space

Ennerdale was a village facing the closure of the only play facility as the land was needed to extend the churchyard. A local community group formed (Ennerdale Community Recreation Area Group) and raised funding over a number of years to purchase an area of land close to the centre of the village which was to be transformed into Ennerdale Green Space. A grant of £50,000 from WREN provided funding to drain, level and landscape the green space so that it could be used for a variety of activities and house the play area when the existing site is closed in 2013.

The Green Space (now called Village Park) has given the local community the only level sports pitch and space for outdoor functions within a radius of over five miles. Moreover it offers a seating and relaxation area, with magnificent views towards the Ennerdale Valley, for local people and visitors, and the 10,000 plus walkers each year who pass through Ennerdale Bridge on the Coast to Coast Walk.

The park was offcially opened by Jamie Reed MP, together with pupils from Ennerdale and Kinniside School and the Recreation Area Group on the 22nd October 2010.
