Gamston - Waterways Access for All

Before this project took place, there was no access to the beautiful Grantham Canal at Gamston for disabled users. The site terrain consisted of steep towpaths and poor surfacing, motor cycle barriers, no seating or handrails and in certain places narrow access. With help from Wren, work to improve the access along the canal has been achieved. A grant of £26,405 has enabled improvements to access to the towpath from Ambleside Safeway's footbridge and provision of seating along the towpath together with provision of a public open space between Safeway's and the towpath, including seating, planting and public art/interpretation.
