Greengairs - New Community Sports Centre
For almost 8 years, the community of Greengairs and Wattston have longed for their own indoor sports centre. The Community Council have worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality.
Planned as an extension to the Community Hall and complementary to the suite of projects known as sustainable Greengairs, this major initiative will bring a much needed facility to these communities which lie between the large towns of Airdrie and Coatbridge. The project will cost in excess of £1M and has benefitted from a massive award of £500,000 from Wren.
Mrs Maria Donovan, Chair of the Community Council expressed her gratitude in saying, 'thanks in a large part to Wren, this magnificent facility will now be a reality'. William Beattie of Wren said, 'it has been a privilege to work closely with the community on this and the other local projects which have also benefitted from Wren funding'. Other projects funded by Wren include, the Stanrigg Memorial Park, a play area, a football pitch and a path network link.
