Holywell - riverbank erosion control

The land next to the river iscommon land and fronts the River Great Ouse in Holywell. This area is open to public access and is used by residents, tourists, fishermen and boat users.

It has suffered badly from erosion, and over the last 18months, a foot of land has been lost. As the bank is undercut, there is a risk to the public, as it could collapse. Concrete from a broken mooring access is causing danger to boats, and encourages children down to the edge.

The proposal was to straighten the riverbank, remove the concrete protruding in the river, batter the bank as a 45 degree angle, repair 50 metres of the bank with Nicospan, and install erosion control matting.

Now the work has been completed, the riverbank is once more safe for the public to use again.
