Hopton On Sea Village Hall

Hopton on sea is a popular location for holidaymakers, with a holiday park nearby, but for those who live there day in, day out, their village hall had passed its best, and was becoming difficult to book a slot to use.  Plans were drawn up to build something which would meet the needs of their local community, and also be an exemplar of environmental build techniques.

This is the model that the committee made themselves to demonstrate how their architect plans looked like in 3-d.

Their aim was to construct an environmentally friendly and modern complex of two joined village halls - one large high-ceilinged hall and one smaller height meeting hall.  The complex houses a kitchen and modern toilet facilities including disabled and baby changing facilities.  An office is available for the community to have contact both for information on community activities and access to other information, and is used by the Parish Council.  Heating would be by air sourced heat pumps heating the floor of the complex.  Heat recovery units would also be utilised in the smaller hall.

 Main hall

Within just months of securing their funding from the BIG Lottery and WREN, work commenced on build, and September 2010 saw their official opening event.

WREN funding was specifically towards the internal improvements, including flooring, decoration, CCTV, stage, kitchen, tables/trolleys, chairs/stackers, and PA/music system.   The hall is now in full operation and benefits a large number of user groups.
