Keyworth Rugby Club Refurbishment

Keyworth Rugby Clubhouse originally started out as a cricket pavilion and was purchased by the Rugby Club 20 years ago. The club has made various improvements to the facilities to enable them to continue to serve the local community.

The club is used regularly by local groups eg Widmerpool Parish Council and the local Rotary Club, however the state of the toilets always caused problems which have remained unchanged for 20 years.

The aim of the project was to develop a separate “public” toilet facility away from the “playing” facility, with adequate male, female, and disabled facilities to cater for the maximum potential occupancy of the building.

To house the facilities an extension was needed which increased the size of the clubhouse by 94m2

The Nottinghamshire Advisory Panel liked this project as they felt it would enhance the overall facility for the benefit of all users, and allow the club to develop its community links for the foreseeable future.

It offered a practical solution to the current problem with minimal impact on the existing site. Local volunteers carried out the decorating and finishing touches which added value to the project.

The clubs application to WREN was supported by a good level of letters of support which highlighted the clubs importance in the local and wider community.

The project which initially was budgeted to cost £50,000 actually came in over budget at £60,000 and money was raised locally to cover this shortfall.
The project took just 2 months to complete and was officially handed over in May 2009.

The club have just completed their first full season in the new clubhouse and are thrilled at the difference it has made.
