Neath - St David's Church Lighting
Following an external repair undertaken by CADW, HLF and other funders the space within the church was reordered however it still retains its primary purpose of worship, the church has become a significant focus for community use particularly so with the recent damage caused to the Gwyn Hall, as the only large scale venue for concerts and other events in Neath.
The lighting in the church is in poor condition and is inadequate for the needs of those using the building. The proposal is to install new internal lighting to the nave, side isles and main chancel areas which is both sympathetic to the character of the building and energy efficient.
The lighting scheme is seen as an integral part of the development of the building and fulfils a need brought about by the extensive use of the church as a community resource, the church currently has close links with the local junior schools and local comprehensive schools and is regularly hired for concerts by local male voice and mixed choirs and orchestras. Regular Civic Services, Town Festival activities and Flower Festivals are also held at the church.
