Normanton The Well Improvements

The Well Project was established to work with all members of the local community, to provide a community centre to promote social inclusion and personal development for all.

The Well Project exists to promote social inclusion ad personal development of all within the community, and provides opportunities for youth and community activities to be established by providing:

-          A facility for people to meet in, to obtain advice, health support and social skill development, leading to education and employment.

-          Workshops, forums, advocacy and general support;

-          Recreational facilities and opportunities that promote good health.

-          A transport service to and from recreational and public services;

-          Information technology access in a social environment

-          Opportunity for personal development for the benefit of self and the Community.

WREN funding was sought towards the adaptation of the exterior of The Well building to make it more accessible for all. The works included:

-          To the rear of the project the earth has been dug out and levelled and a new concrete base for an external storage unit to be built upon, which will provide external storage for sports equipment.

-          The old iron fencing has been replaced with a new gate which gives access to the side where litter collected and weeds flourished.

-          New bike racks have been installed to the front on the building so that young people who attend the project can be encouraged to take responsibility for their bikes etc.

-          The biggest change that has been completed is the addition of a DDA access ramp to the front door of the building. This now allows smooth graduation up from the pavement to the front door. This means that everybody regardless of their mobility can easily access the building.
