Radcliffe Skatepark
The idea behind this project was to create an area for young people from Radcliffe on Trent and the surrounding communities where they could participate in activities and engage in social recreation. The Radcliffe-on-Trent Youth Forum Skatepark Committee wanted to provide a safe yet challenging area where wheeled sports; BMX, skateboarding, inline skating and scootering could be carried out at all levels of competence.
Some six years ago the skate-park committee, its volunteers and members raised sufficient funds to design and construct the parks first major ramp; a five foot high eighteen foot wide mini-ramp. The mini-ramp was built by volunteers and provided a significant focal point at the facility. However due to its popularity the mini-ramp was beginning to show irreparable signs of wear and tear. Further maintenance was impractical due to the deterioration of the timber structure and the need to ensure the ramp was kept in a safe and useable condition at all times.
The group therefore embarked on a fundraising mission to buy a new ramp, which enabled them to secure £12K from WREN plus additional fundraising which they had raised themselves. The group now have a new, much larger custom made ramp, which is proving even more popular than the previous one!
