Sherburn in Elmet Eversley Park Play Area
Originally identified within the Sherburn in Elmet and Villages Community Action Plan in 2003, Eversley Park was a key strategic project within the Selby District Urban Renaissance programme and for Sherburn in Elmet Parish Council. This is because Sherburn in Elmet currently has in Eversley Park an under-utilised asset which is an integral element of the town's renaissance.
All ages of the community have benefited from the successful completion of this project, and especially those aged 12 - 16 as there is currently no provision for play facilities for this age group within Sherburn in Elmet.
The aim of the project was to make the park a more welcoming place, providing a healthy, safe and secure environment that is owned managed and sustained by the local community for the local community.
The project has been undertaken in phases including:
- Phase 1: Young children play zone (ages 3 to 12)
- Phase 2: Adventure Play Zone (ages 12 to 16)
- Phase 3: Wildlife & Parkland Zone
- Phase 4: Sports Zone
WREN funding was offset against phase 2 of the project development in providing an adventure play area within the park. This incorporates elements such as climbing frames/cargo net, aerial runway (zip wire), wheeled sports facility, creative ground work and natural landscaping e.g. earth mounds, humps, dips and undulations, large tyre swing for multiple use, contemporary roundabout and other play/fitness related equipment that stretch and develop children and young people whilst improving dexterity and balance, thus facilitating imaginative free play in a natural environment and making the park a desirable amenity that all the community will enjoy.
The completed project has also improved the poor access and has provided suitable pathways for users of wheelchairs and pushchairs .
