South Ferriby - Sports Facility

The initial idea to create a Multi Use Games Area came about when South Ferriby Parish Council were approached by CEMEX, the local cement company, which owns the site to see if they would like to refurbish and use the tennis courts as a facility for the village instead of its previous status as a sports area just for CEMEX employees.

The amenity which was no longer utilised by the company had fallen into a poor state of repair and was a bit on eyesore in the village.

Previous condition of the tennis courts

The Parish Council consulted residents on what they would like the space to be used for.  The consultation and following debate led to the plan to develop an open access multi-use sports area for tennis, five-a-side football and basketball.

Multi Use Games Area set up for tennis

After a long and hard couple of years trying to secure the necessary funding, due to the dedication of the Parish Council and local residents, the courts have now been transformed into a high quality sports facility, to be utilised by the whole community.

Markings for tennis, basketball and five-a-side football

The completion of the Multi Use Games area, which can be used for tennis, basketball and five-a-side football, has provided a focal point for local young people as it is the first and only sports facility available in the village.  It has also provided a base for other agencies, such as the Youth Service or the Local Authority Sports Development Team, to use and to develop activities for young people.
