Swavesey Memorial Hall Refurbishment Complete
Over the years, the memorial hall had seen general repairs undertaken, but had got to the point where a full refurbishment was needed. The committee worked together to tackle the overall project bit by bit, and consulted with the community as to what they wanted from their hall.
After new windows were installed, this meant that drafts were cut down, but the heating system still struggled to keep up with the need to heat the high-ceilinged hall. The electrical wiring was also outdated, and a full rewire was necessary.
Applications were submitted for funding to WREN and Cambridgeshire Community Foundation (for Donarbon, now Amey Cespa funding), and South Cambs District Council too. Together with their own fundraising of an astounding £12,000, this meant that the hall could at last see some major improvements.
A new suspended ceiling was installed, roof insulation and electrical wiring renewed, repairs to the main hall walls and drains, new lighting and air source heat pumps installed. An Energy Audit was undertaken by Cambs ACRE to identify which areas of the hall needed to be considered when reducing their energy consumption.
Works are now completed, and new decoration has given the hall a new lease of life, and is already showing an increase in bookings.
