Swavesey Sports Pavilion

The village of Swavesey has always participated in sports, and football especially.  In order to progress into league competition in the 1980's, they had to have changing facilities on the same site as their pitch - hence some fundraising, and a wooden structure was erected with the intention of being temporary.  Some 25 years later, they have finally seen their dilapidated facilities replaced with a clean, functional, and green building, which not only provides changing rooms, but a community facility too.

Made from a fast-build recycled insulated block system, it boasts a ground source heat pump, and throughout the building are sunpipes, which bring daylight into rooms which have no windows - ie, toilets.

Located on the recreation ground, in the heart of the village, it is well-placed for use by many groups, and the new community room is available for hire  - and being right next to the childrens play area, might be a good venue for childrens parties!   It is possible for the community area to be used independently of the changing rooms, thus giving flexibility to the villagers.  They are also thinking ahead too, and have designed it such that the room can be extended out to the front at a later date.

Already villagers are interested in hiring the room, with kitchen and toilet facilities, with one mum saying 'how great it would be to hire this for a family get-together - and not worry about what time the last one will leave!'.

WREN funding was specifically identified towards the community facility portion of this building.
