Widnes - Kingsway Backs

Five years after its completion Kingsway Backs Ball Court and Play Area in Widnes has been awarded the Green Pennant Award. The project transformed and underused area of open space at the rear of a large housing estate on the outskirts of Widnes with a grant of £40,000 from WREN towards a total cost of £65,000.

The community have very much taken the project to heart since its completion and have ensured that is remains ‘as good as new’. The Green Pennant Award is granted to ventures that are mainly supported by communities with the additional support from the Council. Kingsway Backs was considered to be ‘unique in its surroundings’, and Tommy Glynn from the residents association was presented with the award by Michaela Strachen in Summer 2009.
