Gift Aid
For the past ten years, WREN has always made every effort to maximise use of any interest earned on the Landfill Communities Fund money. To meet this objective, the Directors have always looked to give away any interest earned away through Gift Aid to a Registered Charity that is also a Registered Environmental Body.
Please Note: Applications for Gift Aid are by invitation only.
2008 Gift Aid Funding Programme
Before the end of the 2008 financial year, the Management Team, supported by the Board, agreed that WREN should design and implement a specific Gift Aid Funding Programme for the first time. This decision was taken to try and maximise the impact of the interest earned throughout each financial year.
The theme for 2008 was:
Providing/improving play and adventure opportunities for young people
WREN approached a number of potential award partners throughout England, Scotland and Wales and invited them to develop a programme of work that would meet this theme.
After consideration, the following funding was awarded:
England
The Woodland Trust - £121,073.00
The National Trust - £250,000.00
BTCV - £250,000.00
Groundwork UK - £385,000.00
Scotland
The Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust - £100,000.00
Wales
Plas Madoc Communities First - £125,000.00
The Woodland Trust - Woodland Wonders Informal Play programme
The Woodland Trust is delivering a programme of work at eight sites across England. The programme focuses on unlocking the potential of each woodland site for informal play and adventure.
The National Trust - Lyme Park Playscape
The National Trust is developing a flagship play facility at Lyme Park in Cheshire using the award winning 'Playscape' concept. Playscape uses elements of nature and adventure to create a truly exciting space for children and will be an exemplar of modern play design, drawing on current theory as set out in publications and programmes such as 'Design for Play', 'Playbuilder' and 'Play Pathfinder'.
BTCV - Wild @ Play programme
BTCV will be delivering two specific Environmental Play Space projects as part of the Wild @ Play programme at sites in Peterborough and Sandwell. These projects aim to support children and young people in developing their own Wild @ Play Zones. BTCV will use play activities to allow children and young people to design their own play space through a range of practical activities i.e. earth moulding, willow planting to help children and young people to turn their own ideas into reality. This will enable the creation of play environments that are totally individual to each site, are owned by the children and young people who designed and built them and are constantly changing so that the same children and young people want to return time and time again.
Groundwork UK - Adventure on your doorstep programme
Groundwork UK will be working with ten regional Groundwork Trusts to deliver natural play projects at ten different sites across England. Projects will be delivered in Graisley, close to Wolverhampton City Centre, Winsford in Cheshire, Canley to the West of Coventry City Centre, Basford close to Nottingham City Centre, Brickhill in Bedford, the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, Coningsby in Lincolnshire, Warrington, Selby and Milton Keynes.
Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust
The Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust will be delivering five different projects across three key sites. They will deliver a Bike Skills Trail, Learning Discovery Area and Youth Shelter at Hailes Park, a Play Area at Muir Wood and a Multi Use Games Area at Ravelston Park.
Plas Madoc Communities First
Plas Madoc Communities First will be delivering two different projects, the first will be the creation of an adventure play ground to be constructed on the Plas Madoc estate and the second will be the refurbishment of an existing fixed-play facility in the Gwyant area of Plas Madoc, which had been condemned on safety grounds.
