Important Challenge Information
The 2008 WRG Communities Challenge closed on the 30/05/2008, as such no more applications can be submitted for inclusion in this years judging process. Details on the 2009 WRG Communities Challenge will be announced on the WREN website as soon as they become available.
Building on the success of previous WRG Challenges, which encouraged a large response across the United Kingdom, the new style WRG Communities Challenge widened the scope to enable a broader variety of community projects seeking funding.
The WRG Communities Challenge seeks to fund the larger more innovative projects which demonstrate the greatest need and can make a significant improvement to people's lives.
This year's WRG Communities Challenge will provide £2 million of funding to support community regenerational projects that will breathe new life into tired and rundown facilties or provide much needed new amenities.
Organisations are invited to bid for funding of between £75,000 and £250,000 for capital projects which will make a real difference to their community.
Projects could include:
- Public parks, community gardens or country parks
- Community centres, village halls and youth centres
- Play areas, skateparks and multi-use games areas
- Nature reserves or community woodlands
- Sports centres and recreation grounds
- Museums and visitors centres
To qualify projects must be site-based and located within 10 miles of any landfill site in one of the following areas:
- Bedfordshire
- Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes
- Cambridgeshire
- Cheshire
- Conwy
- Cumbria
- Derbyshire
- Edinburgh and Midlothian
- Glasgow and North Lanarkshire
- Halton and Warrington
- Humber (includes North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire)
- Kent
- Lincolnshire
- Norfolk
- North & West Yorkshire
- Northamptonshire
- Nottinghamshire
- Oxfordshire and Berkshire
- South Yorkshire
- Suffolk
- Warwickshire and West Midlands
- Wrexham
- West Glamorgan
